As a new grandparent, I was quick to learn modern grandparenting was not what I expected it to be.
I adore my children and their spouses! I am very fortunate to have two terrific daughter-in-laws. As the first grandchild was soon to arrive, I couldn't help but notice that some of the expectations I had in my mind regarding grandparenting were not the same expectations my children had. From the delivery day, holidays, and more, things were not as I had anticipated and maybe even hoped for; however, through a lot of reflection, love and understanding, I am learning to embrace all of it and honor their difficult role as parents in an ever changing society.
